Focusing on the vegetable epic of artist Julien Colombier

Matisse à Keith Haring, by way of Art Deco, the self-taught artist's eye seized upon the power of colour and repeated motif. Armed with his paint and pastels, he brings hypnotic floral frescos to life and occupies space with remarkable intensity. Julien Colombier, a self-taught artist

For Julien Colombier, painting has always been A given. From a childhood pastime to a vocation, it's only a step and a hand, that of his artist mother. She passed on to him a passion for beauty and creation through a few significant exhibitions, notably Matisse's. Since then, Julien Colombier has never stopped painting.

Against all odds, he doesn't follow the well-trodden path of traditional art schools. A self-taught person, educated in the school of the street, that of the Street art. His early works are steeped in urban culture, from graffiti to Keith Haring, and comic books. He trained as a textile designer and worked in cinema decoration. At the same time, he was embroidering his personal artistic universe.

The graphic universe of Julien Colombier, an ode to the beauty of nature

After cutting his teeth on self-portraits, figures, and animal representations, the artist decides to move away from narration to« to set up scenarios in which the character would primarily be the audience »In tête-à-tête with his works, the public is then caught in a whirlwind of motifs in vibrant colours. The repetition of shapes relegates naturalistic realism to the background, giving way to a pure and profound escape. Now flamboyant, now dark, his vegetation is constantly tinged with’one Captivating onirism.

Little by little, Julien Colombier varies his supports and revels in the creation on canvas. This transfer inspires him and forms the thread of Its graphic identity: a black background, from which emerges a lush tropical jungle. The artist's mind almost supernaturally births plant shapes and colours, through which they capture the essence of this world. her acrylic paint and her oil pastels.

Julien Colombier's tropical jungles re-enchant the urban environment

Yet, the artist, born in 1972, lives and works in Paris, in a decidedly urban environment. The vegetal would be a catharsis Certainly, but it's also its decompression valve. The play of shapes and colours by Julien Colombier possesses a hypnotic and meditative power, both for the artist and the spectator. It adorns the mineral urban architecture with a world of imagined plants, straight out of his imagination.

Seas poetic graphical experiments, bordering on psychedelic, subtly evoke the naive art of Douanier Rousseau. Palm trees, foliage and branches of all kinds colonise the visual space and overlap infinitely. Like the street artist Coralie, gardens are on the rise in urban art. a welcome breath of exoticism in a saturated urban environment a grey one!

If Julien Colombier likes to work on all types of media, from canvas to paper, via installation, ceramics and tapestry, is that her vegetal universe transcends any straitjacket. And property developers have understood this. In April 2021, Pitch promotion and the Artistic production company Platform 36 invited the artist to create a unpublished work. Julien Colombier worked on the site of a from 1st to 17th April. new property development, to decorate it a 195m² fence.
